The Art of Styling a Green Suit

When it comes to suit colors, the average man will find himself consistently in a field of navy, charcoal, or in the rarer case brown. In more recent years, younger men have started to adopt more light shades of these big 3 for a more energetic demeanor. However, there is an obvious monopoly that these big three suit colors have over the classic menswear world.

It’s time to step out of that box.

Thanks to the increased accessibility of fashion media, it has become easier than ever to show off unique and interesting styles. With just one search, one can now find a treasure trove of unique sartorial styles and outside-the-box aesthetic innovations. Suits can now be easily found in burgundy, teal, rust, mustard, or any garish tone of neon you can think of.

However, green, particularly the more earth-tone shades, still get often overlooked by many men looking to be more stylish. Many men see this more atypical, muted tone of suit and do not see it as something they could style. In reality, its earth tone and well-set territory in the style world makes a green suit one of the easiest to style.

Shirts:

When deciding what shirt to wear with your green suit, you can copy a lot of the basics you would apply to a brown suit. The less formal color naturally creates a style that plays exceptionally well with non-white shirts.

Blue is a great choice, as the visual similarity of brown and green create a nice contrast with a blue shirt.

If it’s good enough for the joker, it’s good enough for you. An often overlooked shirt combo with a green suit is lavender, as the light purple color creates an elegant, standout contrast without being gauche.

Never be afraid of collar jewelry

You can never go wrong with white. Given the less formal nature of a green suit, the white shirt has the added effect of elevating this suit’s formality.

Ties

There are two routes one can take when deciding on a tie: Passive or Aggressive. The passive route plays into the muted, earthy tone of the suit and gives a more sophisticated, mature energy. Think browns, tans, and blues. Passive can easily be given some energy with a higher contrast shirt, like lavender however. The Aggressive route leaps across the color wheel to embrace a higher contrast palette. Think reds, yellows, and oranges.

Shoe selection can be the same for a brown suit: Burgundy is ideal, but dark-medium brown is a solid choice as well.
