Drip Feed #25: The Problem with Conservative Creativity

There is not a field more dominated by the American left wing than the arts. Their domination of movies, TV, internet content, art, architecture, and of course fashion, is apparent to even the most apathetic people.

Nowadays, many in spheres of the culture war who resist this creative monopoly can only do so on a small scale. Whether that is institutional limitation or personal limitation, Christian, conservative works of art are rare, and truly good work is even rarer. Many see this, but few people truly ask “why?”.

In the rare instance that this “why” is actually asked, the answer is always the same: “Make a Great Value Brand version of a popular left-wing trend but with American Flags and MAGA stamped all over it.” This piss-poor excuse for conservative culture is why so few truly creative people are attracted to the right wing. It is easier for these creatives to hide their views and stay in an environment that fosters real, organic vision and creativity.

The gauche, unoriginal visage of slogan t-shirts and American flag ball caps being the image of conservative art and style isn’t even the worst part. The fatal flaw of this mindset is that all creativity done in this way exists within the left-wing framework. The entire conservative creative scene is a competition for the most popular MAGA merch to be worn at rallies and to obnoxiously blare out to the world how much you AREN’T A LEFTIST.

The left dominates culture and has held onto it because there it fosters an entire competitive ecosystem of unique, creative people who are tied together with similar values and different visions. These worlds of artists are always trying to think outside the current box, and the ones after them are thinking outside that box. Yes, a majority of this art (especially in the last 20+ years) has plummeted in quality, but this ugly and diminished art is the result of a secular worldview and corporate interference. The leftist creative world states their politics and interests openly, but they do not pigeonhole their creatives into only making merch for the next political campaign or meme.

Conservative creatives need to steal this. We have God on our side, the ultimate source of creativity. Christian creativity built the most beautiful architecture, art, and clothing styles the world has ever seen. If conservative creativity is to break out of this permanent second place in the culture, we must encourage an ecosystem of energetic, futuristic visionaries guided by God. This will never exist if we keep running in this tired circle of MAGA rap, T-shirt slogans and corporate country music about beer and flags.

Christian art is regal and dignified, a reflection of Heaven and a tribute to God in its own right. We need a new aesthetic, inspired by the American golden age with a vision for the future, we need a new creative vision: Regalia Americana
